报告简介:
Quantum forces are long-range interactions induced by quantum fluctuations of light fields that couple feebly to matter. In this talk, I will discuss quantum forces both within and beyond the Standard Model. I will first focus on the Standard Model neutrino force, arising from two-neutrino exchange. Although extremely weak, this effect can leave observable signatures in atomic systems and neutrino backgrounds. I will present recent progress showing that its contribution to atomic parity violation may have important implications for precision tests of the Standard Model, including low-energy determinations of the weak mixing angle. I will then discuss quantum forces in the dark sector. At the perturbative level, I will discuss axion-mediated quantum forces and their applications in axion detection experiments. At the non-perturbative level, I will show how quantum forces can significantly modify dark matter annihilation and self-interactions beyond the Born approximation, and discuss the resulting implications for cosmology.
报告人简介:
Dr. Bingrong Yu is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the particle theory group at Cornell University. Before that, he received his Ph.D. from the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) in 2023 and his B.Sc. from Nanjing University in 2018. His research interests broadly span physics beyond the Standard Model, including dark matter, neutrinos, axions, early-Universe cosmology, and effective field theory. His recent work focuses on developing new ideas for probing light new physics in cosmology and in precision laboratory experiments.
